Here at California Dingo Media we like to appreciate those who are breaking new ground in the art world, be it graphic design or fine art… it’s all in need of appreciation. We are starting a series here called “Artist Alert” which will showcase a fine artist, graphic design company, or anyone showing an amazing aptitude for art and design. This week’s offering is Shintaro Ohata from Japan.

I was browsing ye old interwebs and came across probably the most creative and fascinating visual artist I’ve seen in quite some time.. Shintaro Ohata. I’m a lover of mixed media and this fellow fits the bill to a “t”. (what exactly does that mean anyway? I’m not sure.)

He creates three dimensional paintings by painting a background on canvas and creating the main subjects with polystyrene and painting them in the same style so as to appear to pop out of the canvas. Very hard to explain, you have to see it to believe it. This guy is amazing.

Here is a sample of one of his pieces:

Shintaro Ohata is apparently out of Japan and is making waves in the art world internationally, and rightly so. I have no reason to promote this fellow other than I find his work incredible and his creativity something to enlighten us all.

You can find his website with his portfolio here.

Till next time…
